Nadia Arzane and Bashir Foris, Separated!

Nadia still in the UK, still in detention, Bashir in Latvia

Yesterday morning security guards acting on behalf of the UKBA separated Nadia and Bashir by force. Nadia still remains in Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre and Bashir has been removed to Latvia.

On Wednesday, the day before they were due to be removed, Nadia and Bashir were told to speak to immigration officials. After two previous unsuccessful attempts to remove Nadia and Bashir, immigration officials informed them that whilst they would not remove Nadia by force due to her pregnancy there was no reason that Bashir, her husband and the father of her child, could not be sent without her. Furthermore the couple were told they would be split up that night and made to sleep in separate rooms.

On Wednesday evening Nadia refused to go into her separate room allowing her to stay with Bashir until the morning. In the morning security guards, acting on behalf of UK BA, came into their room and separated them by force taking Bashir to the Airport and leaving Nadia at Yarl' s Wood.

A group of concerned individuals attended the airport, tried to contact the pilot and spoke to passengers getting onto the flight. They tried to alert passengers to Bashir's presence on the flight and the reasons they believed that Bashir's deportation was an inhumane act.

Bashir was deported on the 13:10pm flight to Latvia. Nadia has been able to make little contact with her husband. He is still in Latvia and it is not known whether he will be removed to Iran.

Nadia's mental health is deteriorating. She is crying all the time and states that 'if it wasn't for her unborn child she would would kill herself'. Due to her detention she is unable to receive the psychological care she needs. It is even more important now that she can access the psychological care she needs and is released from detention as her husband and her main support have been taken away from her. She is terrified!

Thanks to all who have protested, this is not the end of the struggle; the battle now will be to get Nadia and Bashir reunited, hopefully in the UK
