demockracy village - election day

[London] | 06.05.2010 22:23 | London

a large marquee, banner making, fun at st stephen's green, democracy village still growing.

the new parliament square villagers are still growing both in infrastructure and in numbers.

a big marquee has risen, more tents have arrived, and tonight there are more than sixty people at the village.

during the afternoon, they made a large array of banners, representing the various groups who are now supporting the project. at 6pm they took a stroll down to st stephen's green where the election media camp were established. the authorities clearly were concerned about the possible reality breach of our carefully staged election, so several vans of police turned up. other than that, the police presence has been fairly low key.

they handed a 'bring the troops home' petition in at downing street today, and tomorrow a representative of the camp will be in downing street and will formally invite the new prime minister to visit the camp and speak to the villagers.

supporters are still invited to come along and help out, either by donating some food or blankets, or by staying and helping build further infrastructure and supporting numbers.

this is a new presence in parliament square that will not go away. remember that cameron has promised to get rid of the "unsightly protest in parliament square". if he gains any power tomorrow, he may find a fight on his hands.
