The Animal Liberation Investigation Unit (ALIU) today visited a site at Houghton, just east of Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, to confirm the operational status of Houghton Grange, a laboratory owned by the Institute of Animal Health (IAH).
The Animal Liberation Investigation Unit (ALIU) today visited a site at Houghton, just east of Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, to confirm the operational status of Houghton Grange, a laboratory owned by the Institute of Animal Health (IAH).
Although the site has primarily been used for vivisection on behalf of the meat industry, looking into the more profitable ways of breeding farm animals and associated GM research, experimentation into parvo virus, rabies and other diseases have been conducted using beagles from the nearby Interfauna Kennels. IAH is part of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, an academic research organisation funded by DEFRA, the meat industry and pharmaceutical companies including Schering Plough, Merial and Sanofi Aventis.
We had a comprehensive look around the site at Houghton Grange, Houghton, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, PE28 2BZ and are able to confirm that, although all the laboratory buildings are still there, the site is completely abandoned.
Below are the addresses for the two other animal laboratories owned by the IAH, which we will be visiting shortly. Animals used at both include birds, cattle, sheep, rodents and dogs:

Pirbright Laboratory, Ash Road, Pirbright, Woking, GU24 0NF

The authors of all the ALIU posts seem to know what they are talking about, and if they have the knowledge of the places most people have never even heard of, let alone set foot in, I'm pretty sure they'd know the ins and outs of how that place works, who funds it etc.
