Close down the concrete jungle! Successful demos for animals in captivity

On Friday over 20 activists went to the Jungle Zoo in Cleethorpes and the Great British Circus, currently on tour in Grimsby, calling for an end to the use of animals in entertainment.

The Jungle Zoo, exposed in 2007 and again just a week ago as a hell-hole for animals, was pitifully empty on this bank holiday. Of the few people visiting the site, some turned away when confronted with photographic evidence of the poor conditions inside, and a couple even joined our demo!

In the afternoon we protested at the so-called Great British Circus, exposed last year for beating elephants with metal poles, and still profiting from the exploitation of tigers, camels and other animals. Lots of cars driving past honked their horns to show their support, and its obvious that local activists have worked hard to get out the brutal truth about the circus. After 94.5 per cent of respondents in a Government consultation indicated their support for a ban on wild animals in circuses, it looks like this cruel business may soon be banned. Until that day, and the day that the Great British Circus finds loving homes for all its animals, we will be back to oppose them.

See our website for details of the undercover investigation at Jungle Zoo, or to find out what else we're busy with.
