Global Boycott Divestment Sanctions Day Action

We will be leafletting outside Tesco's on the Cowley Road from 5 to 7pm Tuesday 30th March against the continued stealing of goods by Israel from illegally occupied Palestinian Land.

Enough is enough! After 61 years of Palestinian slaughter, displacement, occupation, oppression, and international dismissiveness and complicity, global action is essential. Israel must be held accountable. World leaders won't do it, so grassroots movements must lead the way.

In solidarity, people of conscience demand justice and "call upon international civil society organizations and (supporters everywhere) to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to (apartheid) South Africa." Pressure is needed for "embargoes and sanctions....for the sake of justice and genuine peace."

Nonetheless, despite start-and-stop efforts and enormous opposition, the BDS movement remains viable and has taken root globally. In February 2010, the student government of the University of Michigan passed a historic resolution to divest millions of dollars currently invested in corporations that sell weapons, goods, and services to Israel-including BAE, Raytheon, Boeing, General Electric, United Technologies, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and Northrop Grumman. Among other successes last month include Scandinavian financial institutions, Norwegian State Pension Fund, drop Elbit Systems due to BDS pressure , a divestment worth $5.4 million dollars. In January 2010, Africa Israel Investments and Elbit Systems have been added to Danske Bank's list of companies that fail to adhere to its Socially Responsible Investment policy, a divestment worth over $1 million.

Let's keep up the momentum! The pressure is working. It took the South Africa BDS campaign over 20 years to have results, yet in only 5 years after the Palestinian call for BDS, it has swept the globe in a big way.

The BDS National Committee (BNC) is calling on you to unite in your different capacities and struggles for a Global BDS Day of Action on March 30, 2010 in solidarity with the Palestinian people and for boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel. Israel's oppression of the Palestinian people cannot be tolerated any longer and we will accordingly adopted diverse forms of BDS against Israel until it ends its oppression of the Palestinian people and fully complies with international law.

Join the Global BDS Day of Action on March 30 2010! Activists from around the world will mark this day, so find an action in your area or register your own here . Send us your videos and photos. Link to the website for the latest updates.
