Protest against Nick Griffin in New Malden (22nd March)

Anti-Fascist | 23.03.2010 16:36 | Anti-racism | Social Struggles

Fascist Nick Griffin was in New Malden debating with the Barking general election candidate for the Christian Party. About 25 people held a protest outside the venue. Most were local and most were young.

The people gathered outside Genesis House to protest believed that Nick Griffin should not be allowed a platform to spout his racist and homophobic filth. The building was surrounded by a huge fence, which ironically partly obscured a van with the slogan "Church Without Walls". The meeting was invite-only, with 25 seats allocated for each side. However, two anti-fascists managed to get in, claiming that they were there for the debate. The crowd outside was lively and stayed until 10:30pm when two cars sped out of the gates, one presumably containing the would-be-Fuhrer.

We felt it was a good turn out considering we were only tipped off a few hours before the event started. Some people came out to complain about noise but when they were informed what we were protesting for they were sympathetic.
