It was never right to barge into other people’s land and insert our flag. Our moral integrity weighs more than the 60 million barrel of oil reserves in the Falklands.
Falkland Island is not in the English Channel where it can legitimately be a subject of dispute; it is in the south of South America. It is not ours. We have to get used to the fact that the empire is dead. Let us move on from there. It was never right to barge into other people’s land and insert our flag. Our moral integrity weighs more than the 60 million barrel of oil reserves in the Falklands.
The Falkland dispute calls into question our claim that we are a leading green nation with a robust commitment to a clean future. Last December at the COP15 Climate Summit in Copenhagen, no substantial agreement could be reached for the future of the planet because the coalition of developing nations could not trust their industrialized counterparts going by their history of saying something and doing something else. Is this Falkland debacle not a further proof?
