Stop the Spread of War - Protest Meeting

John Shemeld | 19.03.2010 13:53

The Nottingham Stop the War Coalition has called a Public Meeting against the spread of war from Afghanistan into Pakistan. It's entitled:

Afghanistan, Pakistan, Where Will It End?

It's on Tuesday, 23 March at 7pm (note the early start!) in Nottingham Trent University's Chaucer Lecture Theatre (right by the NTU Tram Stop in Goldsmiths Street, at the end of Shakespeare Street).

The headline speaker is PETER BRIERLY from MILITARY FAMILIES AGAINST THE WAR.

Peter's son, Shaun Brierly was killed in Iraq, and Peter has campaigned against the war ever since. He last hit the news when he refused to shake hands with Tony Blair at the Chilcot Enquiry. Like the relatives of other dead soldiers, Peter got a special invitation to hear Blair give evidence.

Besides Peter, we also have Assed Baig coming to speak. Assed has written extensively against the war, and is President of Staffordshire University Students' Union, based in Stoke-on-Trent. He has recently survived a right wing attempt to remove him.

The final speaker is Chris Nineham, one of the National Officers of the Stop the War Coalition.

The War is as unwinnable as it ever was; it is as unpopular as it ever was. Come and help us keep up the pressure to end it!

Nottingham Coordinator,
Stop the War Coalition,
