Dear Radio Friend,

This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From CHINA- China rejects criticism of its exchange rate policy and says it is being made a scapegoat for world economic problems. China reasserted that if Google refuses to block access to pornography it will be banned in the country. China has urged the US to stop interfering in other countries domestic affairs by using human rights issues. In Thailand, demonstrations have continued demanding the dissolution of Parliament and restoration of the former Prime Minister. China continues saying that negotiations rather than sanctions are the best option for dealing with Iran. Returns from recent French elections show a defeat for Sarkosy's center right party, and a victory for Socialist candidates. Venezuela continues to ration electricity because of a lack of water to power the hydro-electric generators. Russia and India have signed many new agreements on defense, space, and nuclear power plants.
From NETHERLANDS- Radio Netherlands has eliminated shortwave broadcasts to North America. The decision is based on their surveys that find very few listeners in N America. If you ever listen to RN on shortwave, please let them know- by email to  letters@rnw.nl or send them a letter to Radio Netherlands Worldwide, PO Box 222, 1200JG, Hilversum, The Netherlands.
A television station in the country of Georgia created panic by announcing that Russia had invaded and assassinated the President. The Turkish Prime Minister is threatening to deport thousands of Armenians following the US and Sweden officially recognizing the genocide in the early 20th century. There is a campaign in the Netherlands to close coffee shops on the day of elections to encourage people to vote. Amnesty International has reported that European countries are still exporting torture equipment despite a 2006 ban.
From CUBA- As deadly drone attacks from the US continue in Pakistan, the ACLU has filed a lawsuit. A Scottish newspaper reports that the US is shipping hundreds of bunker buster bombs to a military base in the Indian Ocean. Three peace activists in New Zealand were found not guilty for damaging a US spy base in their country. Protests have increased in Jerusalem and become more violent. Israeli authorities have allowed UN explosives experts into Gaza to blow up Israeli bombs that didn't explode during the siege last year. The US Defense Dept has launched a criminal investigation into the activities of some mercenaries in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
From RUSSIA- The British ambassador to Georgia was outraged over the false TV reports of a Russian invasion. Russia claims complete rights to portions of the Arctic, including oil and natural gas. A commentary on the end of the Cold War and the ongoing conflicts between the US and Russia.

I was interviewed for an informative weekly radio show Mediageek, available at  http://radio.mediageek.net

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday afternoon at 4:30pm (PDST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am.(PDST)
The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from or iTunes (search for "shortwave" in podcasts)

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
