Letter writing to Prisoners at the Crocus
Nottingham Anarchist Black Cross | 18.03.2010 12:20 | Repression | Social Struggles
On Monday the 5th of April starting at 7pm in the Crocus there will a Nottingham Black Cross meeting followed by a session of writing letters to prisoners to offer solidarity, support and friendship.
Nottingham Anarchist Black Cross is a newly formed group, who believe in the destruction of the prison-industrial complex. We wish to seek out those who have been imprisoned by the state, and show solidarity with their struggles inside prison. The prison system is set up to demean, demoralise and destroy the human spirit. It is a state system which intensifies the atomization of society, as it singles out individuals for punishment without accepting it's own responsibility in creating the conditions which lead to particular acts. It is a system which is racist, sexist and classist, and a system which no amount of reform can remedy.
In letter writing we are able to connect the struggles outside of prison to those inside, and are able to develop communities of resistance against state oppression.
Even if you don't subscribe to any of the views expressed above, even if you merely wish to write to a friend or family member currently in prison and wish to write in a supportive environment you are welcome to come along on Monday the 5th of April to talk and enjoy a free meal courtesy of the Food Not Bombs collective.
