tesco resistance in bristol - quick report
stokes croft | 16.03.2010 17:05
The occupiers received a tip off from Trinity rd police station which gave them advance notice that the baliffs and police were preparing to leave.
They arrived at about 10am and initially tried to keep the road open. This proved futile and the road outside has been closed for most of the day.
It took the baliffs at least an hour to gain access to areas of the building. Several people had positioned themselved on scaffolding tripods and ladders to make eviction more difficult.
The baliffs did manage to drag him back off the machine and back onto the roof. When he was lowered to the ground there were efforts made to de-arrest him.
A couple of Fascists with swastika tattoos were 'asked to leave' the demonstration, one of them sought refuge in a media van and was then escorted to safety by police.
Two people have locked on into concrete and attempts to remove them using angle grinders and sledgehammers are ongoing.
There has been a crowd of between 100- 300 supporters milling around for most of the day.
Get yourselves down there..

First attempt to get the occupiers down.
Baliffs man-handling protesters.
Horses were used to push the crowd around, the dogs were brought out at one point, and FIT were there, as usual, taking pictures.
These pictures were taken on a camera phone, so apologies for the quality...

One of Bristol's Finest Days of Recent Times...
16.03.2010 22:31
Perhaps a day long eviction doesn't seem "all that" but for the numbers on the ground and the struggle on the roof and on the crane, many people, despite the apparent "defeat" of eviction came away happy.
the sun smiled on the righteous and even on the police. surges in the crowd, one of the main roads through bristol closed for most of the day, a ladder attack on the cherry picker, several baliffs covered in paint and god knows what else...
4/5 people arrested, and sounds like a couple will be held over for a court appearance tommorrow...

Bailiffs at Jesters? From Sherbond (essex)
17.03.2010 23:01
Bailiffs at the Jesters eviction are believed to have come from the specialist enforcement agency Sherbond ( http://www.sherbond.net/), a branch of the Shergroup ( http://www.shergroup.net/). Their CEO is Claire Sandbrook, and they are based in Essex, whilst also seeking to expand in the US and India. Corporate scum indeed:
Shergroup House, No 3-4 Freeport Office Village, Century Drive, Braintree, Essex CM77 8YG
Sherbond Client Services Team: 0845 890 9209 // Sherbond Client Services Fax: 0845 890 9216 // email at enquiries@sherbond.net
Here's a great bit of text from some PR they did last year:
High Profile Site Security “Needs a Major Rethink,” Says UK's Leading Enforcement Agency
"Shergroup's enforcement and security divisions have seen a rise in the number of incidents on which they are called in to help as campaigners become more expert in mobilising public opposition and taking aggressive direct action. Protest groups are now using Parliamentary campaigns, the courts, the planning process and the media to back up their site-specific campaigns.
The threat from a wide range of sources including eco-warriors, squatters and protestors to national utilities such as energy, water and gas companies is very real and increasing, which in turn adds another layer of cost to protecting assets from invasion and trespass. In this picture taken from the Shergroup archives you can see a protestor chained to the conveyor belt, which forms part of the infrastructure of a national coal fired power station.
Shergroup were instructed to handle another full-on protest in October this year when eco-protestors climbed up and locked on to a 650-foot chimney to make their point about climate change. Shergroup teams had to spend two-and-a-half hours climbing up the hot, dusty chimney to remove the protestors from a dangerous situation.
So what can companies do to combat these expensive and high-risk threats to their vital infrastructure? The simple answer is to bring Shergroup in right from the start, especially where the threat from disruption to production or damage to property is perceived as high-risk. "
But eco-warriors beware, Shergroup also have an Environmental Policy - enforcers of a green tomorrow ( http://www.shergroup.net/environmental-policy.aspx).
Even better, they have a charitable arm, believe it or not called Sherbet, 'a debt charity that helps families affected by enforcement action' ( http://www.sherbetfoundation.com/). Do read the 'How Sherbet works' section!
And no, I am not making this up, honest gov.
