Another Noahs Ark Demo

Bristol Animal Rights Collective | 14.03.2010 20:58 | Animal Liberation

Saturday the 13th saw six activists from BARC ( bristol animal rights collective ) arive to demo Bristol's crazzy creationist zoo, Noah's Ark.

Waiting for us was a riot van and the BBC. The beeb filmed us putting up our many banners and posters and the cops told us to behave, not to block the road blah blah blah... The demo was a good 'un with the weather staying nice, zoo attendance staying low and at least one car load of people who were going into the zoo turning round after being given a leafflett and having a chat.

The amount of support from passing motorists was as high as ever with loads of toots of support and several passing cars stopping for more information.

The zoo are attempting to expand and get elephants. For the welfare of the elephants it's vital that we stop them. A investigation by Defra and Bristol University looked at all the elephants in UK zoos and found welfare problems with most of them. - The report can be read here.  http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/2008/081212a.htm You can object to the planning aplication on line on the North Somerset council's website here -

On Sunday the 14th two BARC members did a street stall in Western-super-Mare to raise awareness about the zoo. We had a fantastic response from people, many had heard all about the zoo and were already dead against it and a lot of those who hadn't heard of the zoo were shocked to find out about the numerous cases of animal abuse.

We are aiming to demo the zoo again this saturday - please get in touch if you want a lift or for more information.

If you didn't already no about the undercover investigation at Noah's Ark last summer, if you somehow missed all the press about it have a look here  http://www.offthehoof.co.uk/samplefeatures/OTH5Zoo.pdf It makes shocking reading.

Well done. You can't underestimate the good effects of leafleting outside the zoo, sometimes it seems pointless as people queue up to go in oblivious to the issues. The truth is that it's that extra nudge that people sometimes need to turn them onto the reality of cruelty in zoos.Well done again.
