CONGOLESE DEMO in Manchester

Congolese Protesting against deportations, theft of mineral resources, President Kabila and Western Media silence.
With immense economic resources, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) has been at the centre of what could be termed Africa's world war.
This has left it in the grip of a humanitarian crisis. The five-year conflict pitted government forces, supported by Angola, Namibia and Zimbabwe, against rebels backed by Uganda and Rwanda. Despite a peace deal and the formation of a transitional government in 2003, people in the east of the country remain in terror of marauding militia and the army.
The war claimed an estimated three million lives, either as a direct result of fighting or because of disease and malnutrition. It has been called possibly the worst emergency to unfold in Africa in recent decades.

Good to see that the Anarchist Federation was at this - the woman in the sixth picture down is clasping a copy (along with a worrying Respect placard...).

What was the demo about?

this is the kind of info needed from reports of demos, not old news and old photos (these photos are two years old, i know we were there!)
3m dead is old news, it is actually 6.4 million dead in DRC now and there is no mention of the role of France, US and Britain in the wars in your report - they are the ones behind the war and who benefitted from it: who is the main prop and support for Rwanda and Uganda? Britain and the US.
you may also try getting other refugees to join you next time, not just Congolese people, not to mention other British people

There is more information in the report above.
It was organised by the Congo Support Group.
The photos are from yesterday, I know I was there, and I'm in one of the photos!
was there
Fair enough

there is no attempt to 'shit stir' as suggested, but there was no mention of who organised this demo and no attempt to mobilise for it outside of the Congolese community as afar as i'm aware - all migrant workers face deportation and these actions need to be widened or the Labour government will pick migrant workers off one by one.
