Kingsnorth power station to receive CCS grant

A few months ago Eon announced that the construction of Kingsnorth power station could be delayed by up to 5 years. This was brilliant news for the activists who had been campaigning against it.
Bad news this week - Eon are set to receive a huge grant from the government to build Kingsnorth with CCS technology.

"E.ON has today (MON) submitted environmental scoping reports outlining the company's plans for a carbon dioxide (CO2) pipeline for its proposed Kingsnorth cleaner coal-fired power station...
...The scoping reports outline the steps the company will take towards developing final plans for the pipeline, which will go across the Hoo Peninsula and then be placed in a trench on the seabed taking it to the depleted North Sea gas fields which will be used for storage.
The final proposals are expected to be submitted to Medway Council as part of a full pipeline planning application towards the end of this year..."

"Two coal-fired power plants, including Eon's controversial Kingsnorth project, are to be given government support that could be worth tens of millions of pounds to develop technology for storing carbon dioxide emissions, the Financial Times has learnt.
The announcement, which could come within the next week, of money for two companies to produce detailed plans for the innovative power stations will take Britain closer to commercial carbon capture and storage technology - essential if the country is to continue burning coal for electricity..."
