This month’s regular demonstration outside Communications House Immigration Reporting Centre is dedicated in particular to solidarity with the women in Yarl’s Wood Immigration Reporting Centre, who have been on hunger strike since 5 February, protesting against their arbitrary and punitive detention. The response to their peaceful protest has been brutal, with physical attacks, summary deportation and the removal of so-called ‘ringleaders’ to criminal prisons.

Communications House is one of a chain of 'reporting centres'. Immigration reporting centres are places of fear for asylum seekers who have to report to them monthly, weekly or even several times a week. From reporting centres asylum seekers are often detained without warning and sent to removal centres such as Yarl’s Wood to await deportation.
