Bristol airport - crunch time - 3 March (next Weds)

Stop Bristol Airport Expansion | 26.02.2010 16:57 | Climate Chaos | South Coast

The decision on Bristol airport's ambitious expansion plans is due to be made by North Somerset Council next Wednesday on 3 March - you can show your opposition by attending the meeting.

Bristol International Airport (BIA) has lodged a planning application for a massive development with North Somerset Council. They are proposing to build a new terminal building, car parks and much more. If their plans go ahead the local area will suffer from yet more traffic congestion, noise from flights and building on the green belt, and carbon emissions from flights could more than double.

The Stop Bristol Airport Expansion campaign (SBAE) is asking Councillors to turn down the application or cap the application at 8 million passengers per year (there were around 5.8 million last year), until public transport and road improvements have been made and carbon emission targets are met.

A decision on the plans is due to be made at a special South Area Committee meeting of North Somerset Council on 3 March at 6 pm at the Town Hall, Weston super Mare.

We are asking as many people as possible to come to this meeting to show the Councillors the level of opposition to BIA's plans.

If you can possibly make it, please come along.

There will also be a press photo call for people opposing BIA's plans at 5.30pm outside Weston Town Hall, which is in the centre of Weston-super-Mare, about 10 mins walk from the station.
