RBS attacked with rocks & fire over Tar Sands project

Carlo Giuliani | 24.02.2010 12:55 | Tar Sands | Climate Chaos | Social Struggles

In the early hours of Tuesday 23rd February 2010, anarchists attacked the Royal Bank of Scotland HQ in the heart of developing Bristol, UK.

Despite road traffic and proximity of security, the mob succeeded in breaking windows, smashing paint-bombs against upper floors and setting fire to tyres in the middle of the road.

A litany of abuses by RBS or any other bank could continue for pages, but it is enough to state that every bank is part of the financial prison which incarcerates and impoverishes all of us.

These actions will escalate and multiply.

We dedicate this action to all indigenous fighters and their allies struggling against the Tar Sands project in Kanada which RBS is an investor in, and also all those who fight against the 2010 Winter-Olympics.

This action is also in solidarity with Alfredo M. Bonanno, Christos Stratigopoulos, Polykarpos Georgiades, Vaggelis Chrisohoides, Giannis Dimitrakis, Gabriel Pombo da Silva, the entire London G20 defendants/prisoners and all other prisoners in struggle.

For international struggle against capitalism and the state.

Carlo Giuliani?

Is that Greek? And what are you doing in this country smashing stuff up for!?
This is a classic example of why people are so against immigration - the backlash will become huge

I really hope that was meant sarcastically. Carlo Giuliani was an Italian murdered by cops.

Carlo Giulianis

Must be two Carlo Giulianis. Yes, the main one was killed at the G8 when he and others were attacking a police vehicle that had got stuck with metal poles and wooden boards. Carlo picked up a metal fire extinguisher with the intent to throw it at the policemen inside the vehicle when he was shot. There was a lot of confusion as to exact what happen, even as to where the bullet came from.

That is hugely innapropriate. No there is not dispute as to where the bullet came from. The police murdered him.

Huge solidarity with the action! Hopefully it really will be stepped up. BP are thinking of investing in Tar Sands ( http://www.tarsandswatch.org/) and their AGM is the April 15th. We must step up the pressure and scare them out of investment. Their is a call out for a fortnight of shame in the lead up to this, with groups all over organising their own thing. Let's make it a sucess!

Wooh sparky - i'm just quoting whats listed on wikipedia.

It says it was never conclusive as they bullet was from the wrong type of gun that the police had. It says it could have come from the plaza

I've just edited the entry on wikipedia, now you can quote the truth! Actually, I haven't bothered, but why you should trust what it says on wikipedia on contentious subjects is beyond me! Try looking at the history and discussion for pages, to see if there's an 'edit war' or comment, but try other sources too...sigh.

And erm, the whole reversing back and forth over his dead body never happened though, did it?

that one

he was murdered by a scared conscript, however,

carlo was heading toward the jeep with the fire extinguiher as if to throw it, he probably would have had he not been shot upto six times, in the head, ran over twice and left for obvious death on the streets during the genoa uprising 2001. his name and his face will never be forgotten.

Tyres?

27.02.2010 11:35

Good action, but burning tyres? That stinks. Doesn't make sense to me at all as a tactic used in portest over an environmental issue.

Tyre'd of activists - go back to climate camp!

"Hey, are you, like, -burning recycling-?"

(Activist to Black Bloc anarchists during Seattle WTO 1999)

This action obviously isn't a 'protest' and it has little to do with your ill-formed ideas of what 'environmentalism' is or isn't.

This is a disturbance in the city at a banking target and it is part of the social war.
