Save Shaker Aamer Campaign | 04.02.2010 10:37 | Guantánamo | Anti-racism | Repression | Terror War

Early February marks 8 years since British resident Shaker Aamer, who has a British family in south London, was sent to Guantánamo Bay among the first group of prisoners. 8 years on, no charge, no trial, no release date. Why? The British government, recently implicated in his torture, asked for his release in 2007, but he is still there. Join us as we demand the government takes action to see him return home to his family

SAVE SHAKER AAMER CAMPAIGN
- Last Londoner in Guantanamo
calls upon you to make your protest:
SAVE SHAKER AAMER - RELEASE HIM NOW
PROTEST! PROTEST! PROTEST!

8th ANNIVERSARY
OF SHAKER AAMER'S
DETENTION IN
GUANTANAMO

ASSEMBLE: opposite Downing Street, Whitehall, London
Saturday, 6th Feb.
from 12 noon to 2pm
Dress: if possible, Orange jumpsuit or wear orange
Transport: Westminster Tube Station

This protest marks the 8th year anniversary of Shaker Aamer's detention in Guantanamo. Shaker has suffered greatly in this brutal concentration camp and previously at Kandahar and Bagram. Those in the US administration and UK government should hang their heads in shame, Guantanamo remains open and Shaker is still detained without charge or trial. A great injustice has been done - Shaker, a Battersea resident, should be set free to join his family again.
COME JOIN SHAKER's FAMILY, MPs, LAWYERS, HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGNERS, and others - representatives from organisations and institutions both local and national will be there. The Save Shaker Aamer Campaign (SSAC) enjoys the support of many organisations including Stop the War Coalition, London Guantanamo Campaign, Cageprisoners, Reprieve, Amnesty International. Battersea & Wandsworth TUC, and many other organisations and institutions local to Shaker’s home in Battersea, Wandsworth.
On the 6th FEB EVERYBODY should be in Downing Street ready to raise our voices again - SSAC calls upon you to bring placards, posters and your banners, and if possible, for all to wear orange jumpsuits or dress in orange.. Shaker is the last British Resident still detained in Guantanamo. He is the most long-standing victim of our Government's complicity in torture. Foreign Secretary David Miliband has ignored SSAC's and local MP Martin Linton's request for a meeting with him. Call upon the British government to do more to secure Shaker’s return home to his family in London. Write to the Foreign Secretary Rt Hon David Miliband, Foreign Office, King Charles Street, SW1A 2AH. Urge Mr Milband to meet with a Save Shaker Aamer Campaign deputation.

Please make sure you are there at 12 noon Downing Street on the 6th FEB, AND BRING ALL YOUR CONTACTS, FRIENDS, WORKMATES, NEIGHBOURS
