There are plans to build a high level [3] virus containment facility and animal testing lab in Camden on a residential Camden council houses estate, Somers Town in Camden. The lab could contain deadly pathogens such as anthrax and if built will be alongside St Pancras International in Kings Cross behind the British Library. There will be a development forum and public meeting in Camden on February 10th in Camden. This is your LAST CHANCE to ask questions and speak out. Attend!
The meeting will be on February 10th, 6.30 - 8.30 at St Mary and St Pancras Primary School 45 - 47 Polygon Road London NW1 1SR.
You can contact Camden Green Party [Nathalie Bennet has excellent and up to date info her Green Party Wordpress blogspot and this has the most detailed and accurate info site about the lab, take a look] for more info. Nathalie Bennet has pointed oput that the most appropriate place for the lab site is at Mill Hill where security is better and where the NIMR staff do in fact want to stay. While AR activists do not want any lab it is argued by the Green Party that keeping the existing lab where it is will be better than building anew and dangerously positioned one in Kings Cross. The Kings Cross lab site is close to where nuclear trains sit which poses the threta of appalling accisdent an the potential persecution of Muslim and Irish people living in somers Town and on the other side of Camden around Agar Grove etc. Supporters of the lab, have worryingly claimed that they support the lan "because of the high incidence of TB in the area" leading some to worry that the lab will link in with immigration detention facilities in St Pancras International as part of a compulsory health screening prgoramme for immigrants. This was exacerbated by right wing campaigners claiming that Somali and Bengali [who they collectively dubbed as Pakistani] "spread TB".
Whatever your reasons for fighting the lab or finding out about it - make sure you get to the public forum in February and speak out.

Get down there and make your voices heard about the lab, this is your last chance before the UKCMRI submit their planning application. [UKCMRI is the correct name for the project, based in Euston Road rather than the "BLISS" Lab - the name a cruel parody considering what will happen inside the facility if it is built and then name beloved of it's supporters].
The lab poses and environmental disaster, Foot and Mouth disease was leaked form a similar govt facility Pirbright in Surrey leading to a National catastrophe, such a leak in central London would be even worse...any germs leaked out from an accident or deliberate attack would make their way straight down the Channel Tunnel into Europe and of course across the UK which could lead to quarantine in London and beyond.
The media have dubbed the lab the "28 Days Later" lab reminiscent of the films "28 Days Later" "Resident Evil" and "Doomsday" with good reason. MI5 went to the Evening Standard to express security fears and the scientists went to the Camden New Journal to speak out in an unprecedented breach of security which should tell you something....
If built the lab will force down property prices in the area, another reason to oppose this lab. Would you want to live next door?
PROTEST!

Imagine Camden and Kings Cross or even the UK as Anthrax Island!

Don't let them build it!!

Anthrax, and many other 'nasties' do not do well in salt water. So there is some sense in surrounding the lab with salt water.
Shutting down Heathrow Airport completely will release valueable land for houseing. It will improve air quality and reduce noise pollution locally (ie throughout london).
It makes sense to put the lab near a place where Anthrax (and other 'nasties') might enter the country.
In the event of a release of something deadly the whole complex could be fried with Thermite before demolition charges drop the whole structure into the sea.
Done this way the lab and the airport are self funding and will create loads of new jobs. The risk to everyone will be reduced. In short, in a imperfect world it will be the least worst solution!
