Camden fascist pub Gloucester Arms landlord removed by brewery & Camden police

Camden Antifash | 29.01.2010 12:33 | Anti-racism | Migration | Social Struggles | South Coast | World

Following last week's "Week of Action" and protests at the Gloucester Arms in Kentish Town the brewery and Camden police have removed the landlord from the pub. The brewery intends to keep the pub, with new tenants who have nothing to do with Coyne.

Well done to everyone who fought this.

Not really...

...because you still relied on the police, whom you profess to hate.

Rubbish - all that happened was that a concerted and inspiring campaign attracted the attention of the police, who got involved off their own backs (I assume). having followed the progress of this campaign, I assume that the campaign would have continued, and won despite the actions of the police.

Well done all involved.

This was a multi faceted campaign involving law abiding tenants who had been to the police in the past and who got nowhere and as everyone is aware it also involved people who got fed up with relying on the law / expecting them to do something and eventually took it into their own hands and were helped by unknown people who were not law abiding.

Councillors in Camden who are bound to abide by the law as part of their work were also involved in shutting down the pub.

Law abiding people were let down initially by the police and council who thankfully did do something in the end to close the pub before anyone was killed. Children live near to the pub...what do you prefer, that the police and brewery get them out or that people have gunfights in a residential area? This wasn't just a case of a bad landlord, although of course he was, there were problems with ultra extreme racism and sectarianism which led to guns being used. I'm sure that most of the people who live in Kentish Town are glad to see the back of John Coyne and we are glad that he is gone, no matter how this was achieved.

Again, thank you to every single person who did something, anything, whatever it was, to shut this pub down.
