Where is "Stop The War"?

Well, to begin with, they didn't "Stop the War" and there is a lot to be said for the case that in the 6-going-on-7 years since their role has been to "play mother" to the continuing dissent, dissipating the anger until it reduces to a background noise like a chained-up dog outside a kennel at the foot of the garden.

Their use of the internet remains primitive and superficial and they have repeatedly lead the body of dissent into unimaginative, futile and ineffectual expressions and they have done NOTHING to encourage debate and discussion about newer more effective methods..

The latest "Stop the War" coffee table game is "Ask Blair a Question".
I put it to them in 15 January that "Questioning Blair is by definition a tacit means of letting Blair off the hook" - we already have enough evidence to hang him as at Nuremberg (See attached email). They did not respond.

I followed up on Jan 18 to add that "There is only ONE more question that Blair should be asked: 'How do you plead?'" (See attached email). They did not respond.

When is "Stop The War" going to change its name to "Stop War" and begin the debate about how to overcome the "Iraq Inquiry" and pursue the action of having Blair prosecuted and if at all possible hanged for war crimes as the only effective means to putting an end to this fraudulent pretence to civilised society?

Allen

Questioning Blair is by definition a tacit means of letting Blair off the hook

There is only ONE more question that Blair should be asked: "How do you
plead?"

And that is by the ICC after presenting him with a long list of war crimes
and crimes against humanity beginning with the initiation of an illegal war
based on deception and fraud.

Allen

IF YOU COULD ASK TONY BLAIR ONE QUESTION...

The Iraq Inquiry committee needs your help. Its weak,
deferential questioning of witnesses has been widely
criticised as inadequate for an inquiry into the most
disastrous foreign policy decision of the past half century.

This doesn't augur well for Tony Blair's much awaited
appearance in the next few weeks. Stop the War wants your help
in providing suggestions for the type of questioning which
will be required to expose the lies and deception that Blair
used to take Britain into an illegal war.

Stop the War is inviting questions from all of our supporters,
which we will publish on our website and then collate to send
to the Iraq Inquiry committee.

Writer and broadcaster Michael Rosen has already sent us his
question:

"You say that the war was right and that it was worth it, so
this is a question about your level of acceptable death and
destruction: at what number of deaths and at what level of
destruction would such a war become not-worth-it?"

Troops out of........The World.

22.01.2010 00:55

Indeed your quite right as you highlight 'stop the war', like war was some kind of new thing that occured from Kuwait onwards. I don't think there has been a single day without armed conflict on a national scale somewhere in the world since W W 2, and wasn't W W 1 'the war to end wars' [sic].

OK so alot of good people got behind the STWC to organise and march but you know an opportunity was sadly missed when over a million rocked up at downing street and for the most part carried on and walked past, no huge analysis needed but when the impetous that existed at that moment wasn't built on and propelled by the coalition, many ordinary folk just felt disempowered by the refusal of our, glorious and elected representatives, to actually do as we were asking them, we pay thier frigging wages after all ~ and i guess that goes for the STWC too, well except wages, errm unless you buy socialist worker that is. I think from my pretty plebian view point the StWPc shat themselves at that moment fearing that they, if they fermented the anger felt by folk, would lose control, becoming a redundant entity (bleeding vanguardism and all that, we lead, you follow.) We could and should have become ungovernable. Thats not to say the great heaving massess would have realised at that moment that another world, of mutualism etc blah blah, was possible but at least the goal would have been achieved, strikes, occupations, refusal to handle military shipments, blockades etc etc, all very resonable tactics to undertake within the dictat of 'democracy.' perhaps something of a movement to Stop War could have been realised as a result. All musings and conjecture. The 'Other' is Possible, Troops out of the World, This is Nothing to Lose...well for me any way.

Hussein and blair killed no one!

22.01.2010 01:46

Saddam Hussein was hanged for his part in murdering far less people than have already been murdered during Afghanistan and Iraq invasions. But one thing that Hussein and Blair have in common is that they never killed anyone (themselves) they hired 'heros' to carry out their murders for them.

Until Stop The War accept where blame truly lies, on the individuals who do the dirt work, and the individuals who contributed to their wages (every british taxpayer) they will be less than useless. But then they are more interested in popularity than principals, as are all professional politicians, and the uncomfortable problem is that most STW ers, like most of the british working classes who still have a job are employed by the government (as teachers, nursed, bin men, NHS performance analysts, etc) and are deeply fearful of their financial future if they should 'break the law'

One british soldier that has done what every british soldier should do, is facing a military court on Friday 29 January. In true populist form Stop The War will be controlling the protest, so don't break the law!  http://bristol.indymedia.org/article/691746

It now appears that Joe has been diagnosed with PTSD, which I hope he doesn't use in his defense because it will give the kangaroo court the opportunity to acquit him for expediency without accepting that it is his duty under british domestic and international law to refuse to deploy to the illegally occupied country of Afghanistan.

Well done joe, keep the pressure on them!

Protest the Chilcot "Inquiry"

24.01.2010 18:24

Allen,

In a way I know what you are saying with this... "a to encourage debate and discussion about newer more effective methods.. ".
However you do not mention the call for protests outside the Chilcot Iraq "Inquiry". If we can see that the Chilcot Inquiry is not going to produce any positive outcome then that is surely a good reason to protest on the day that Blair is there being "questioned". I think people should go whether they support Stop the War Coalition or not.
