Letters from Haiti

a | 19.01.2010 03:31 | Analysis | Climate Chaos | Globalisation

We all have a desire to help the people of Haiti in any way that we can. Many of us have donated money. Some of us are volunteering.

Over at Delaware Liberal, we have a frequent commenter, Joanne Christian, who used an already scheduled trip to the Dominican Republic for vacation to volunteer at a 20 bed hospital in Santo Domingo that was helping 2,000 Haitian victims. At some point during her work, she decided that she should get some names of these people so that their family will know that they got out, although there is a likelihood that some of the people here have died of their injuries, or soon will.

So she grabbed what she had, which was a paper bag, and started writing down the names of the victims she was treating. We are publishing the names at Delaware Liberal and here at Daily Kos, in the small hope that wide dissemination of the names of the survivors could possibly reach those yearning for any news of their loved ones. Indeed, if you have contacts in Haiti, please forward these images along to them. Some of the letter formations in Haiti are different than here in the US, so there is some ambiguity. Joanne was able to have a Haitian-American identify the names and is now trying to get the information to the Haitian embassy and the Red Cross(although it is hard to get through right now).

Here are the images of the names that she collected on a paper bag that she had.
