Censorship on Independant Media

Freedom of speech on left wing liberal websites was compromised.

On the 10 of January, 2010 there was a heinousness crime within the media industry. A little known - global internet publication by the name of Indymedia, censored an article relating to racism that occurred in Nottingham city a month previous. Robert Paulson, the author of the article had this to say:

'I am sincerely disappointed to hear my article has been pulled from the Indymedia website. I believed that my right to free speech would be most welcomed on the site as they appeared to be the most liberal and free thinking of any media publication. However it is now clear to me that I should go back to writing for the Guardian...'

He went on to say:

'I was certain I had stuck with the posting guidelines for the site, and had even tried to be quite creative by changing names and places though out the document to let people draw their own opinion from my reports on recent racist events' - 'I had even added my personal stance in a hope of adding a human element to the report'.

'Obviously calling an anti-racist a racist is seen as a personal attack and has angered moderators enough to remove the post'

This shocking turn of events has worried several public officials and freedom of speech activists, and could mark the town turn of personal freedom across the board. Mr William Wallace from Scotland has been quoted as saying:

'It is the small left-wing publications that hold freedom of speech most dearly, if they start a rein of censorship it is opening the flood gates for more morally corrupt organisations to censor anything - scot free.'

Indymedia will be brought before a soap-box trial at the end of may on charges of hypocrisy. The outcome of the trail could result in Indymedia's reputation becoming even more tarnished.
