kew bridge eco village under threat tomorrow

r | 14.12.2009 18:02 | Ecology | Free Spaces

officials visited the kew bridge eco village (occupied now for six months) earlier today and told them that bulldozers will be arriving tomorrow to tear down the fencing around the site. there is a call out for visitors to join them and resist any such attempt.

earlier today, council officials arrived at the kew bridge eco village and warned the occupiers that bulldozers will be arriving tomorrow (tuesday) to tear down the fencing around the site.

occupiers have called out for support to resist the attempt.

the site has been successfully occupied for six months after the land had lain derelict for years. there has been good outreach work to the local community, and there is much support for the example of sustainable living on otherwise wasted inner city land.

it is unclear what plans the council have for the site, but the pressure towards an eviction is clearly building up.

visitors are welcome from 9am in the morning to view the work at the site and help resist any attempt to remove fencing etc.

Perhaps you work for the council or a cop.

False alarm

just to also doubly confirm, from someone on site, the council are coming with a bulldozer to replace a fence on one site of the site because it is deemed to be structurally unsound, having been assessed 3 weeks ago.

in any case, any genuine eviction attempt would have had to have been served with notice (worst case scenerio being if an enforcement notice). As yet, as far as I know, no legal attempts by the owner to evict has been put in motion.

sorry all!

there's an old journalist maxim to always get a story from at least two sources. now, i'm not an old journalist, but in this case, it would have been wise. i got my info from a panicking camper who asked me to post, and without further checks, i did. thanks for the corrections, and happy camping.

in that case, this item should have been removed instead of staying up!

needs to be reomoved from London IMC site, as it's listed high up on the newswire there as if it's a current event .. very misleading.

This will be a worthwhile exercise in seeing what the procedure is for removing stuff on the London newswire which should be removed.
