Pascal fears for his life and his liberty if he is returned to Cameroon. He has been arrested at party political rallies, interrogated and severely beaten. He still bears scars from this on his legs.

Amnesty International has documented the abuses committed against Pascal's political party, the Southern Cameroon National Council (SCNC) which advocates self-determination for the Anglophone regions of the country. Pascal was a senior member of the party being the head of propaganda. The treatment of the SCNC by the Cameroonian Government makes shocking reading, with unfair trials and beatings being used against its members. Indeed Amnesty begin their report on Cameroonian human rights abuses, published at the start of this year, by saying:

For more than 10 years, Amnesty International has received reports of human rights violations that were ordered, condoned or perpetrated by the Cameroonian authorities in contravention of their national and international human rights obligations. These violations include: arbitrary arrests and unlawful detentions; extrajudicial executions; threats against and ill-treatment of human rights defenders and journalists; denial of the rights to freedom of expression and association; harsh prison conditions; torture and other forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment; failure to protect the human rights of women and girls; and persecution of men and women on the grounds of their actual or imputed sexual orientation.

I would draw your attention to the appalling treatment of SCNC members as highlighted in the report section 3.2.

Pascal believes that the security forces have continued to search for him since he fled the country. The SCNC's chairman (Chief Ayamba Ette Otun) has verified his active involvement in the party and the Amnesty reports shows this involvement entails a substantial risk to Pascal's safety and liberty. Even the Foreign Office advises British citizens to avoid political demonstrations and large public gatherings in Cameroon. Pascal has continued to be an active member of the SCNC in Scotland since seeking sanctuary in the UK. His return would likely be immediately noticed by the Cameroonian authorities and understandably he fears the treatment he will receive at their hands if forced to return.

Whilst living in Glasgow, Pascal has made friends with a wide variety of local people and had recently been looking for voluntary opportunities through which he could contribute to the local community which has become home for him.

What you can do to help Pascal stay in the UK
1.) Email/Fax, Sam Okwulehie, Group Area Manager Kenya Airways and urge him not to carry out the forced removal of Ntarh Pascal Ntarh - you can use the model fax 'NtarhPascalNtarhKA.doc' attached.
