MORE than a quarter of a million people were stopped and searched by police officers in the UK using counter-terrorism powers in the last financial year - a rise of 36 per cent from the previous year. Figures released by the Home Office on Friday show that 256,026 stops were carried out under section 44 of the Terrorism Act 2000, 95 per cent of which were performed by officers from either the Met or the British Transport Police
