Elijah was moved to Lewes prison yesterday

You can write to him:

News On Elijah:

10 months ago yesterday, on 18 January 2009, Elijah (James) Smith and 5 other anti-militarists from Bristol were arrested in Brighton. They had spent the previous night decommissioning the EDO/MBM/ITT factory in Brighton, in an attempt to stop it providing parts for weapons being used by the Israeli army to bomb civilians in Gaza. Nobody was injured or harassed during their action, which was one of property damage/sabotage. They did not resist arrest.

Exactly 10 months on and Elijah Smith is still on remand. Yes thats right – 10 months in prison without trial. And it looks as if he is likely to remain in prison until the trial actually starts, probably on 17 May 2010, by which time he’ll have spent 16 months on remand.

How crazy is that! Especially if no one was killed, injured or harassed.

Unbelievable! Where is the mainstream media up in arms about this?!
A great action, both symbolic and practical, endangering nobody's life.
Do we know how to contact him with letters of support, etc?
Also, how much solidarity work is going on for him, among especially the Smask EDO group? It should be happening, could be a good issue for the militant anti-authoritarian to unite around, and gather support - not many people, surely, can support the injustice against Elijah, and many I feel would support his original action with some understanding of the context.
Solidarity!

At least he's in a better nick, relatively speaking. Horfield is a hell hole, I mean Lewes isn't much better- its still a Cat B holding nick but- speaking from experience, at least his life will be a little easier. From what I remember its a lot easier to get around the regs and the screws in Lewes. Nevertheless, Cat B is a pretty shitty regime, even with the little perks you get from being on remand instead of sentenced. So write him a letter, or card or send him something like a magazine or book if you are prepared to negotiate the minefield of acceptable material. Believe me, any kind of correspondence goes a long way toward breaking up the monotony of regime life. Get writing!

i did 10 and a half months with no trial - it does get to you, no matter how strong you are. i take it he has applied for judge in chambers - basically his last chance by law to get out. that probably failed, i'll assume. good lick to him. he's a hero........
