25ft Gun Demo A Success

Notts Arms Dump | 14.11.2009 11:10 | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | Social Struggles | World

On Friday the 13th November 2009 in Nottingham, Anti-Militarists and other activists marched to the gun makers Heckler and Koch in Lenton, Nottingham.

The whole demo was a success, in terms of people turning up and taking part and also for the fact that a few people said they'd never been on a demo before and had pledged to get involved in demo's against the arms trade and capitalism in the future...That's what the day was all about - creating publicity for the campaign against Heckler and Koch...The struggle continues...watch this space for more action later this year and early next year....

Thanks to those that came along.

One word about the 25ft gun...It was in a bit of disarray and needed repairs throughout...But fear not, the model makers know what to do for next time to make it bigger and better and stronger!!

The giant gun was awesome, well done to the makers, organisers and people who attended this protest. You've put the spotlight on the scum at H&K.

I saw one of the wretched H&K employees in the city centre a few weeks ago. When he noticed me taking an interest in his HK name tag, him and his chum scuttled out of the shop in terror, leaving their purchases behind.
The campaign is having an effect - the vermin employees of this company know they are hated by the residents of Nottingham, and I'm sure won't even dare wear their HK name tags outside of their police guarded compound in future.

but Vermin employees??, is that comment for real??. Seems many of their employees are ashamed that the guns they make are used by repressive regimes, the arms trade should be far, far, far more regulated.
Many people in Nottingham worked in the arms trade for many years until recently, most of them were not vermin thank you. Nottingham was the major supply point via Chetwynd for the whole army, most people were ashamed of the imperialism& Ghandi was welcomed in Beeston, but we were proud help stop Nazism & Stalinism.
PROUD
This campaign is great, but if there any Stalinist-Maoist Leaders in it & I know 99% disagree with them, we should challenge them for the millions who died due to the Soviet & Maoist jackboot. Many older & people born in Nottingham see these well known Stalinists one day promoting Stalin & the next on anti arms or war demos & think WTF!!. They can put many good people off,

Until democracy is more real & globalised guns are needed to defend what little democracy we have & they should be in trained regulated hands like in Switzerland or the legal pre WW2 Spanish republic which was starved of weapons to defend itself& ended up being extorted at least 25% above market value by Stalin

Guns should not used to defend oil corporations or corruption or sold to repressive regimes, but they are needed& should be in legal, democractic hands.

Any one who packs a gun has no place in Nottingham!

It is no more socially acceptable to work in a state sanctioned and police protected weapons dealers than to deal guns on the streets. If any one tries to justify guns for law enforcement officers, just consider:

1) they are more likely to shoot some one by mistake if you have a gun than if you don't,

2) they are more likely to be shot by someone else if you have a gun than if you don't,

3) police who kill are not accountable to the law in the same way as anyone else;

most of the people involved in the building of the gun and organising the demo were anarchists, primitivists and other 'types" of libertarian socialists.....other people attending have their own views and beliefs, proving that anti arms traders come from a wide range on the "spectrum". the people who paid for the gun to be built were anarchists. the squat where it was built was anarchist-ran...aside from talking to the police to organise an escort and make it legal (to protect activists on licence), the demo was pretty much one by anarchists opposed to heckler and koch and war in general. i was involved, and i call myself an anarchist

and on h and k employees, they should be ashamed and, as bad as this may sound, they should leave h and k and find employ elsewhere. this is serious people, not arm chair politics. people die because of h and k. h and k need to be stopped. if someone takes a job with them, a job they will have been "offered", no one is forcing them, although if they are pressured enough to leave, then that will be good for anti-arms traders. then they will be unemployed, but they will be "offered" other jobs. to argue too much over the rights of employees working for disgusting companies like h and k, is to take away the realness of what h and k do...they sell objects that are used to kill and maim and cause untold suffering.
who in their mind would want to work for h and k?
and please dont comment on the need to work and pay rent and taxes, i work and pay rent and taxes, but i dont need to work for scum to achieve it........

i thought the day passed off great and look forward to more demo against heckler and koch.....
