Kingston University Linked to Terror Organisation, Hizb ut-Tahrir

According to articles published in the mainstream press (Daily Telegraph and Slough Observer), Zafar Ali, former councilor in Slough, Berkshire, is now the Chair of the Board of Governors at an Islamic school in Slough, which is affiliated with the violent anti-Semitic and anti-Western group, Hizb ut-Tahrir. The group has been active in recruiting at Kingston University, which appointed Mr Ali to serve as independent investigator in an internal grievance case against a Jewish staff member in 2005.

It has now been revealed by the Daily Telegraph ( http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/lawandorder/6475214/Council-suspends-funding-to-schools-linked-to-Hizb-ut-Tahrir.html) that Iqra Islamic school is run by Hizb ut Tahrir, the violent anti-Semitic and anti-Western terror group, which is banned in several countries. As a result, the local council in Slough has removed the school's public funding.

What has also emerged, however, is that Zafar Ali, a former Slough councilor, who is known for his role as Director of the disgraced Slough Citizens Advice Bureau, which burned down in a fire ruled as arson, and for his role in a scandal involving the registering of non-existent or "ghost" voters, which resulted in his being barred from running for his council seat by the Labour Party, is the Chair of the Board of Governors at the Iqra Islamic School, which he helped to establish ( http://www.sloughobserver.co.uk/news/roundup/articles/2009/10/11/42105-school-comes-under-fire-for-adding-more-lessons-/).

Despite having been cited in a 2003 BBC Newsnight report as a recruiting hotbed for Hizb ut Tahir ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/3182271.stm), Kingston University hired Zafar Ali in 2005 to conduct an independent investigation of a grievance filed against a Jewish-American member of staff, which resulted in that individual's sacking. Mr Ali continues to be involved in the case as a named witness in an ongoing claim before the Employment Tribunal, and the University has failed thus far to distance itself from Mr Ali's conduct as an associate of the terror group, Hizb ut-Tahrir.

According to unnamed sources, there are widely felt concerns about the possibility for a fair hearing in the Tribunal, due to the chilling effect that Mr Ali's involvement is likely to have upon other witnesses.
