Camden Animal Lab - contractors bidding for UKCMRI construction

anon | 02.11.2009 04:42 | Animal Liberation | Bio-technology | Social Struggles | South Coast | World

There are two construction companies bidding for the building contract for the lab. Laing O'Rourke and Bam construction. Other building firms have ruled themselves out. The consortium put in a scoping report earlier this year and intend to apply for planning permission. Details around the construction plans can be found at www.ukcmri.ac.uk and at UKCMRI construction.

The consortium intend to start pre construction work in early 2010.

The UKCMRI consortium say that they "still don't know" what the lab will be

They have said that primarily that their work will be to "combat disease" but their work plan is yet to be finalised. In other the words the lab could be literally absolutely anything including a germ warfare facility.

Swine Flu.

Foot and Mouth Disease.

Sars.

Bird Flu.

Smoke and mirrors

There are games being played here. There has been an almost total silence since Fleishman-Hillards communiques in 2008. 2009 is almost gone and no planning application has been made public, no real community consultation has taken place. No information, other than the consortium's glossy corporate speak pronouncements has been put forward. What about the real concerns on security grounds, and the Camden community's growing awareness of the current worldwide activities of Big Pharma. This is a proposal that DEMANDS public scrutiny. There are vested interests playing with the safety and lives of ordinary people, not to mention torturing innocent animals. With the recent activity of BAXTERS Pharmaceutical and events in the Ukraine, do we really want this thing on our doorstep?
