UN votes against US embargo of Cuba

28th October 2009 vote in the United Nations

For the eighteenth year running, the United Nations has voted against the USA embargo on Cuba.

The assembly passed a non-binding resolution -- with 187 votes in favour, three against and two abstentions. The following voted against:

USA
Israel
Pilau

The following abstained:

Marshall Islands
Micronesia

Just the US really!

Marshall Islands, Palau (not Pilau - you are thinking of the rice!) and Micronesia are all tiny Pacific islands entirely dependent on US aid.

So really ONLY the US and its client states voted against.
