Press Release: Manchester workers the most stressed while on holiday
28th October 2009: A recent survey issued by MyManchesterJobs.co.uk has found that 36% of local employees were stressed about their job while on holiday this year, almost double the percentage seen in other areas.
The survey which was also hosted on sister sites MySheffieldJobs.co.uk and MyLeedsJobs.co.uk also found that the Manchester workforce are the least satisfied with their holiday allowance, with half of respondents stating that they did not receive enough paid holidays, resulting in 28% of people admitting to actively seeking a new role when they returned.
Managing Director of MyJobGroup.co.uk (incorporating MyManchesterJobs.co.uk) Lee Fayer commented on these results by saying “we were interested to find out just how workers in different cities were bearing up during the recession and finding out more about their annual leave was the perfect way to achieve this.”
“Our findings show that Manchester workers are the most under pressure on their holiday. Over 40% admitted to checking their work e-mails while away and 32% were receiving work-related calls on their break. Both these numbers were considerably higher than results from Leeds and Sheffield. Employees in Manchester are feeling short-changed when it comes to their holidays.”
He concluded by saying “in these tough economic times it is vital that employers recognise that annual leave is essential for workers to recharge and refresh to prepare themselves for the new challenges they face in the workplace. Employers need to keep morale high, focus on team building and prepare adequately for when their staff are away on annual leave.“
