Since our launch, we have been contacted by a number of members of the public and also approached on street stalls, informing us about a pet shop specialising in pedigree dogs based in Bramley, Leeds. So, following stopping all shops selling real fur in West Yorkshire we have launched a new undercover investigation and campaign:

OCTOBER 2009 – WYARG FILM CONDITIONS AT LEEDS STORE
At random, a day was chosen to go visit the Leeds pet shop of Dogs 4 Us to gather information on the conditions in which puppies are forced to live until, or if, they are sold. The following was written by our undercover investigator about what they saw. Please note that images to accompany the evidence will be publish shortly

Filthy Cages
“Upon walking into the kennels at the back of the store, the stench of soiled litter was overwelming. I soon discovered the reason for this when looking inside the puppies’ small cages, most of which had faeces in more than one place. What came as a suprise was when I looked in one cage, containing two curled up dogs of only weeks in age, and there was splashed faeces up the back wall which looked like it must have been there for days. The amount of sawdust in each ‘kennel’ was an absolute minimum, only several scoops full at the most and not even enough to cover the floor properly. The puppies who had had deposits placed on them appeared to not have been cleaned out at all, no doubt a way of saving money for the company.”

Puppies in Isolation and No Stimulation
“Over a dozen puppies were kept in isolation, no doubt following the sale of the others in the litter. These animals looked extemely sad and lonely, clammering for attention as soon as I slightly looked at their small pen. One puppy, however, stuck out most. He or she appeared extremely nervous and just sat in the middle of the cage staring with a slightly bowed head. No attempt had been made by the staff at Dogs 4 Us to give him or her even a toy for company. Next door was a small jack russell pup, again there were no toys or company and even the bed did not have any form of bedding in. “

No Exercise
“There was no sign of any of these puppies being given exercise, instead they were no doubt stuck in their 1m deep rectangular pens all day until somebody decided to buy them.”
