Resistance 101 - A week of workshops at Nottingham University

Active Student | 21.10.2009 21:37

A week of workshops from 2-6 November promoting radical social change through education and direct action.

Times are tough. The environment in which we live is under imminent threat; wars are being fought and innocent people are being murdered in our name; refugees and migrants fleeing poverty, repression and conflict are being violently turned away at our borders; modern capitalism is plunging us into crisis. The world around us, a world not of our making but one that has been shaped by years of exploitation, inequality and injustice, is cracking at the seams and producing misery and suffering for millions.

But all is not lost. The chance has not yet passed for creating a world based on social equality and co-operation, peace and justice. There is resistance growing all over the world to the unjust practices of governments and corporations, and movements pushing for radical social change are resisting the forces of oppression, poverty, and inequality. The time has come for us to join together and decide how, as a community, we can play our part in bringing about positive social and political change.

Another world is possible, but it’s up to us to make it real. What better place than here, what better time than now...

So we invite you to take part in week of workshops, skillsharing and actions to develop new skills and ideas and to bring people together who care about radical social change.

The workshops will be held on University Park campus, NG7 2AG, between the 2-6 November. Full details of locations and times will posted at nottinghamfreeschool.wordpress.com as soon as they're confirmed, where you can also find a brochure with a full list of workshops.
