Royal Mail Strikes

supporter | 16.10.2009 12:02 | Workers' Movements

Picket line support is requested on Thursday and particularly on Friday.

As I understand it, there will be picket lines at Royal Mail sorting offices on Thursday and delivery offices on Friday. The managers are actively scabbing; breaking health and safety practives such as carrying two bags at a time and using their own vehicles. Workers at other communications firms, such as UPS, are scabbing as well and this is so far going largely unchallenged. An effective strike should be made industry wide using flying pickets.
See the link for detailed information about this dispute.

30,000 unwitting scabs

18.10.2009 16:12

78,000 doleys were made to apply for the pre-Christmas shift at the Royal Mail. All of them would've assumed this was the normal seasonal 15,000 vacancies but in reality 30,000 are going to be hired to help break the strike. These people were tricked into taking this scab work but they should bear in mind two facts:

Anyone who crosses any picket line is a scab.
A scab binman was beaten up in Edinburgh this week, quitting his scab job too late.

TNT Scabs

19.10.2009 10:55

"Britain's largest private mail operator, TNT, is seeking permission to handle the delivery of letters across the UK. This would create a rival service for the 'last-mile' of door-to-door deliveries."
