Solihull Now Fur Free
Stratford only a few to go!
MADELEINE ANN IS NOW FUR FREE AND WE ASK EVERYONE TO PLEASE STOP CONTACTING THEM AND CONTACT OTHER SHOPS SELLING FUR INSTEAD. WE ARE CURRENTLY WAITING FOR A FINAL STATEMENT BUT THE SHOP OWNER SEEMS VERY DESPERATE TO GET A POLICY TO US DUE TO THE WORRY OF MORE PROTESTS. WE THEREFORE CALL AN END TO THE CAMPAIGN, AS LONG AS WE RECEIVE A STATEMENT SOON. SEE DEMO REPORT BELOW FOR MORE INFO.
Protestors arrived slightly late at Madeleine Ann’s in Solihull on Sat10th Octoberand hurriedly began their demo before being asked intothe shop! Madeleine Ann statedthey have stopped selling fur, havereturned all their fur products to theirsuppliers and will not infuture stock fur at either of their branches. They alsostated thatthey are willing to sign a confirmation agreement with CAFT.The demo then moved up the road to Lescarpe to be immediately greetedby a very angrysecurity guard who seemed a bit confused as he wasdressed in plainclothes and tryingto act like an angry citizen, yetwas openly directing other centre security staffwith his radio! Thedemo then got a bit surreal as protestors had to endure averyagitated PC alternating with the confused private security guard tosee if theprotestors could be goaded into actually breaking the law!Despite an overbearingattitude and threats of arrest from theagitated PC and public threats of aggressionand obvious attempts to provoke a reaction from a confused security guard, theprotestorsmaintained their legal rights to peaceful protest and carried onchantingand handing out leaflets despite the very obvious attempts to provoke them! After a very reasonable CPSO got involved, a statement was issued fromLescarpestating they had removed the offending items and would not infuture stock any furproducts. They agreed to sign a written committment with CAFT so the demo was ended. On the way out of SoliHull two police officers felt the need to wait at either sideof the road and pull over the activists, clearly annoyed at the victories theyresort to harassment, intimidation and trying to inconvenience legitimate protestersin any way they can. Claiming they wanted to “run some checks” because “we’d causeda disruption in SoliHull”, they also mentioned that “they are trying to makeSoliHull a nice place for people to live and retailers to make business”! Well forthat they ought to be on our side because there is nothing illegal about conductinga legal protest, and anywhere will be a nicer place to be without stores sellingitems of real fur from the vile and cruel fur trade!
