NATO WC Communique #1 One Month to Go!
NATO Welcoming Committee | 13.10.2009 19:06 | Anti-militarism | Gender | World
Hello and welcome to the first communique from the NATO Welcoming Committee. This is going to be the way the NATO Welcoming Committee communicates with the media and with people following the mobilisation against the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in November.
NATO Welcoming Committee will release communiques before during and after the event rather than responding to questions from the press. Autonomous groups and people can do their own thing but must be explicit about not speaking on behalf of of the NATO Welcoming Committee.
Communiques will be available from the website: http://natowc.noflag.org.uk/communiques
It is now one month exactly until the first day of the Parliamentary Assembly, and the mass demo called by the Welcoming Committee! The Welcoming Committee has been planning, plotting and even the odd bit of scheming in preparation. People from many different backgrounds are now preparing for the day of action against militarism. With it more than likely that the police will try and stop any plans to disrupt the summit, never mind shut it down, details are being kept under raps. Keep checking our website. Information will be released over the next month in the run up to the day.
If you have a local anti-militarist group or want to help mobilise in your region please get in touch. We have publicity printed and can send some to you. Please email us: natowc [at] noflag.org.uk
While we stand against NATO, we stand in solidarity with those who suffer from the effects of NATO and militarism in general. To make this solidarity more than just rhetorical the NATO Welcoming Committee is organising a fund-raiser and information night for the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan. “RAWA is the oldest political/social organization of Afghan women struggling for peace, freedom, democracy and women's rights in fundamentalism-blighted Afghanistan since 1977. “ (from the RAWA website: http://www.rawa.org) On Saturday the 14th of November, day two of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, we will hold a night of film's, food, discussion and music in our convergence centre.
Thanks for reading our first communique. See you on the streets!
