Three free gigs have been held in North East Wales over the last three days to mark International Peace Day, which is today, 21 September.

MOLD

'The Absurd'  http://www.theabsurd.co.uk/about.html organised a celebratory pub party for peace at 'Y Pentan' in Mold on Saturday night - two stages and dozens of musicians and poets performing to a mixed audience of pub regulars and people who'd come along specially for this event. Lovely, happy vibes all round, although the acts were often drowned out by the revelry!

LLANGOLLEN

Sunday evening saw another 'Absurd' production, with many of the same artists, but at a venue about as far from a busy pub as you can imagine - St John's Church in Llangollen - which has the most wonderful acoustics and atmosphere. This time the audience sat still and listened to songs and poetry of love, peace, revolution and lots more besides.

These two events were part of a three day North Wales tour for International Peace Day:  http://peaceoneday.theabsurd.co.uk/, the first gig being in Bangor on Friday night.

WREXHAM

At lunchtime today, local band 'Heal the Last Stand'  http://www.myspace.com/healthelaststand and guests performed at a Picnic for Peace on Llwyn Isaf in Wrexham town centre. Students, fans and passers by enjoyed an hour of chilled music and free cakes in a very relaxed atmosphere. The photos above are from today's picnic.

Wrexham Peace & Justice Forum had stalls at all three events and we would like to thank 'The Absurd' and 'Heal the Last Stand' for organising these gigs and for inviting us along. It was great that all three attracted a real mix of people. Hope there will be lots more community events like this in the coming months.
