ABOUT THE IT'S A KNOCK OUT CAMPAIGN

For the past three years, there have been a limited amount of shops in West Yorkshire willing to sell real fur. However, this season a number have already come to our attention.

It’s a Knock Out is a new campaign launched by West Yorkshire Animal Rights Group aimed at stopping these stores from stocking real fur and gaining fur-free policies.

The fur trade has been exposed countless times all over the world, each revealing the same cruelty towards, and suffering of, animals farmed and killed entirely for fashion purposes. This is completely unnecessary and the only reason fur is around is for people’s vanity.

Hate to break this to you

But SHOES (as well as sandals, boots, tec.) are frequently made of leather; that is, the skin of animals with the hair removed.

In singling out a partular show store are you intending to make a distinction along the lines "hair left on bad; hair removed first OK?" That seems to me a strange distinction to make.

I agree with your principles and idea MDN, however what we have to do it think about how we can achieve our goals.

Going vegan is not the be all and end all of animal rights activism, if it was it would be on the grounds of that everyone in the world will go vegan and it would solve all the issues. However, this is not the case and we have to take things step by step. The most achievable way to tackle the fur industry is through doing actions aimed at shutting down the farms, stopping places selling it etc because the animals are bred specifically for this purpose and it would save their lives.

The issue of leather can be tackled by taking down the meat industry as it is a by-product, about 2% of leather is made from purposely bred cattle. Thus, if people stopping eating meat then leather will go down with it, but this would need at least 25% of the population to be at least veggie. Therefore, the only step to save lives is campaigning against fur.

UPDATE: DANIEL FOOTWEAR TO GO FUR-FREE

22.09.2009 13:39

West Yorkshire Animal Rights have been in discussion with the Managing Director of Daniel Footwear, which has resulted in the decision for the company to stop the sale of real fur as of next fashion season, Spring/Summer as the items could not be returned to the manufacturer.

We thank Daniel Footwear for the decision they have made and as a result ask all our supporters to call off any contact with the company, demonstrations planned, boycotts and remove any pages on websites naming the company as a distributor of fur products.

Many Thanks,
W.Y.A.R.
