Bulldozers & cops outside migrant camp

No Borderer | 16.09.2009 22:27 | Migration | Repression

-

Getting news in that cops and bulldozers have surrounded the Pashtun (afghan) migrant camp in Calais, France, where children as young as 7 and 8 years old are living. It seems there finally gonna raze the place tonight, hours after the immigration minister announced it's be cleared before next week.

Cant even begin to express my anger....

They sorted out the Afghan by asking who had papers and who had no it.
In the question " you go to arrest all of us? ", the MEMBERS OF THE FRENCH RIOT POLICE answered " only 15 ".
They thus arrested15 persons.
The operation was finished in 23.50.
Maybe they proceed to mini raids.

Thinking of heading over to Calais? PLEASE get together as many tents as you can to take there. All those people are going to be without shelter very soon.

Camp now destroyed

17.09.2009 11:44

Just after 12 local time armoured French Army bulldozers (with CRS riot police minders) came to the camp after being hidden in the surrounding dunes during the night. They emerged form all sides and the camp was gone in under 20 minutes, some had to run for their lives to avoid being run down.
Police then arrived in mini buses, vans and large army coaches into which the residents of the camp were heared like cattle, the buses left the area, we don't know where they have gone but some of the French police said "Aux Sud" meaning they were being sent South.
There are rumours of a French detention camp that has been built in the Ariège region near the Spanish border in the town of Suc-et-Sentenac. There was for a while a large Foreign Legion training camp there and this has been converted as the new national French centre for migrants.

New camp details

17.09.2009 12:55

The new migrant camp is being built at Aubagne not Suc-et-Sentenac. The Suc-et-Sentenac camp was redevloped into a housing centre and business park. French activists have been picketing the camp from when it became known what is was being prepared for after it was announced by French Immigration Minister Eric Besson

The Aubagne camp will house up to 4,000 people in part of the old HQ of the French Foreign Legion, there's a map at

update

17.09.2009 17:52

*Thursday 17th September

We are receiving news that the CRS have been showing a heavy presence at the Pashtun ‘jungle’, arresting groups of migrants. Also bulldozers have appeared at this ‘jungle’. This seems so far to be an escalation of the initimidation rather than a wholesale clearance, but immigration minister Besson has claimed he wants rid of the ‘jungles’ by the end of next week. More on the ground presence required to keep track of what is going on, and frustrate these actions.
