English Defence League plan Leeds Invasion on 31st of October

AnarchoProle | 16.09.2009 21:54 | Anti-racism

According to their Website, which was created by the B.N.P.'s Chris Renton, The English Defence League (not some equivalent of the Academie Francaise but a neo-fascist group of English football casuals and assorted xenophobes) are planning to march in Leeds in October.

The English Defence League has been getting a lot of attention lately from the Liberal press with the Guardian newspaper dedicating two full pages to them this week. They claim not to be linked to the Fascist B.N.P. but they have members and organisers in common, their website was created by a known Fascist and it appears they are trying to put Nick Griffin's assertion that "It is more important to control the streets of a city than its council chamber." into practice. They claim to "only" be against Islamic Extremism and anyone with a dislike for the practices of British Soldiers but their members were heard to shout "I hate Pakis more than you" at the recent Luton demonstration, thus exposing their beliefs and motivations to be Racist as opposed to theological. They are only a small group, pulling maybe 30 people out to their last outing but they are being reported as having forged links with English football casuals of the fascist/far right persuasion and so it might be that they now have people who are willing to travel and form violent alliances in the run up to the World Cup. Their website has very little information on what is planned by them in Leeds in October and it maybe that with it being so close to the Anarchist Bookfair that they may change it to the same day to try and minimise resistance, which is a regular tactic of theirs. The far right have been kept off our streets due to the militant work of Anti-Fa, the 365 Group and many others and as the enemy steps up its activities it is more important than ever that we stand up to them and keep our streets, our cities and country free of these scumbags and their attempts to turns us against one another. On the 31st of October let us show them they are not welcome in Leeds.

"maybe that with it being so close to the Anarchist Bookfair that they may change it to the same day to try and minimise resistance"

is this a joke?

At EDLs last event, a counter demo against a pro-Palestine quds demo in london, the anarchists admitted to doing nothing to resist the EDL - they just "monitored" the EDL hurling racism at the muslim demo and then headed for the pub!

I suppose its an improvement, a couple years ago class war actually joined the counter demo against the quds demo!

with friends like that who needs enemies..

The BNP attitude to the EDL

17.09.2009 08:40

On September 3rd, The BNP issued a statement to the effect that the EDL was a "proscribed organisation" and any BNP member found to be involved in it was liable to expulsion from the party. It's interesteing that so many BNP members seem to still be active in/practically supportive of the EDL............

Of course, Griffin wants to distance himself from EDL, it is not compatible with their electioneering strategy, however I am sure the BNP secretly welcome this group's actions. The BNP are a crypto-fascist group as are EDL.

big joke.

lets not forget the class war bonfire where they cheered and burnt an effigy of Jesus and of Mohammed holding a koran. lets see if you mention that next time you try and jump on the bandwagon of muslim communities defending themselves.. .

@ntifascist

who kept the fash off the streets?

17.09.2009 12:58

"The far right have been kept off our streets due to the militant work of Anti-Fa, the 365 Group and many others"

what a load of shit. the far right haven't been a street presence for the last 10-15 years. we are only now seeing theiir resurgence. Antfia is *NOT* responsible for keeping the fash off the streets. only for a few pathetic fights.

the far right *were* beaten off the street in the late 70's to early 90's by the work of AFA and Red Action. It was this work that lead to the change in tactics to the electoral policy the BNP have been following for the last few years.

do not give antifa more credit then they are worth. there is nothing to be had in deluding ourselves.

AFA, Red Action etc

@non please look up the meaning of the phrase "and others" it might help you to understand why your post was unnecessary.

"I suppose its an improvement, a couple years ago class war actually joined the counter demo against the quds demo! "

Whats wrong with that? Do you support the Islamic Republic of Iran? Do you support Hezbollah? Do you support Hamas? That is what the Al-quds demo is all about.

And what did you want anarchists to do on that day? To be honest there were so many fascists and homophobes on both sides that it was hard to pick who should be attacked first!

Quds is arabic for Jerusalem, of course it was about Palestine you twat!

I've seen the photos of the demo - not one placard mentioned Iran. The speeches are also on-line they are all about Palestine. Yes there was support for Hezbollah and Hamas, so what? They are under attack from Israel. And yes it historically started in Iran, so what? The boycott of israel started in syria does that mean to boycott israel is to show support for the Assad regime?

If you want to stand next to the BNP waving israeli flags thats fine, just dont pretend its about fighting fascism!

If it was about palestine WHERE WERE THE PALESTINIANS!!! There were no more than 400 people mainly bangla, iranian, somalian and pakistani muslims.

The reason I am an anarchist is because I DON'T support gangs like Hamas and Hezbollah. Do you know how many palestinian muslims that Hamas have tortured and killed!!

To be honest mate, with your "antifascists" view you wouldn't last five minutes in gaza, west bank or south Lebanon.

Don't choose sides, make sides -- like I said before siting in the pub was the best side that day!

"If it was about palestine WHERE WERE THE PALESTINIANS!!!"

What? Are you serious? I suppose you were the one complaining about the lack of Vietnamese on the anti-Vietnam war demos?

With this sort of reasoning, I agree its best you sit it out in the pub and let others take up the challenge.

contextless question

18.09.2009 20:48

London anarchist asked: " Do you know how many palestinian muslims that Hamas have tortured and killed!!"

I bet its lower than the totals for either Fatah or Israel - and thats despite the fact that Fatah was preparing a USA backed coup against Hamas after it had been elected.

Erm, I was on this demo and I didn't see any anarchists there at all. There were none at Marble Arch and none thrugh the streets as we all walked along.

I did see some people around Piccadilly Circus as we walked through but it was maybe 5-6 thuggish looking football hooligan types surrounding by what seemed like hundreds of photographers and tv types. There was some people holding green placards trying to say the Iranian election was unfiar or something.

The media were not interested in the Al Quds march, or what it was about. What they were 'interested in' was fascists. I dont know how they came to know the fascists would be there and how they came to know so much about the fascists but the fascists had obviously pre-booked all the publicity. When the Al Quds people marched by, the fascists shouted a bit and let go of their rascist feelings and the photographers took their pictures but still no anarchists.

Throughout the entire thing I walked with and spoke with Palestinians. There were hundreds of Boycott Israel banners, Palestinian flags and lots of white banners with quotes from Malcolm X.

EDL, State honeytrap

20.09.2009 15:21

There's something very dodgy about the E.D.L and everyone who goes to the counter demo should be very carefull, have their wits about them and keep on their toes. A load of football casuals, ussually very good at avoiding confrontation in built up C.C.T.V heavy areas marching through city centres, something doesn't add up. This seems to be a honey trap designed to nab the more militant fash and the more militant anti-fascists. I'm not saying don't oppose them on the day and I'm not saying don't crack skulls, I'm just saying, watch yourselves.
