Workers' Climate Action conference

Workers' Climate Action | 07.09.2009 12:46 | Ecology | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | Sheffield | South Coast

The second conference of the Workers' Climate Action network will take place in London on Saturday 10 October.

12-6pm, Saturday 10 October
Central London, tbc

Founded by socialist, anarchist, trade union, Climate Camp and other activists in November 2007, Workers' Climate Action builds links between the labour and environmental movements, to fight climate change and ecological destruction on the basis of working-class organisation and class struggle. We want a workers-led 'just transition' to a sustainable, socially planned economy.

WCA activists have played a key role in helping to initiate and supporting the (ongoing) Vestas struggle, in which wind turbine workers on the Isle of Wight occupied their factory to stop its closure, sparking a 'red-green' coalition fighting for jobs and workers' rights and against climate change.

At this year's Climate Camp, we organised a number of sessions on working-class ecology, including "Climate change as a class issue"; "Vestas: how wind turbine workers occupied to save their factory''; "Lucas, Visteon and workers-led just transition"; and "Women and the miners' strike: how ideas change in struggle".

In the last two months, many new activists have got involved in WCA. We are therefore holding a conference to discuss our ideas, plan action and get organised for the period ahead.

More details soon. Hope to see you there!
