Who decides on what gets promoted to the promoted newswire?

durruti02 | 31.08.2009 10:37 | Indymedia | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements

the promoted newsire is excluding important news .. see below .. many people choose to have the promoted newswire as default as there is so much crap on the open newswire but they are missing out importent news

who and why is making these decisions? IMCistas IF you want IndyUK to represent ALL UK activism instead of what you determine it to be you are getting it wrong

Promoted newswire today 27th-31st August 2009, all of it .. i have not edited this at all and it gives us 2 Palestines ( why on a UK promoted newswire?) and 2 Zippos!! .. is this the right promotions??

the answer to such criticism must always be to not rely on other to promote what you want to promote. They are all volunteers.. you could be a volunteer too

so instead of griping about the media-be the media

The unelected, non accountable clique that decides all IMC policy. And don't even think of trying to join them, you will not be welcomed as a number of poeple found out in the Spring of this year.

blood libels are good

Any time you can find a way to accuse an Israeli of eating a Palestinian or killing one in order to sell his body parts, or some other old anti-Semitic meme, Indymedia UK will find a way to look in the other direction. Anti-Semitism on Indymedia UK isn't bad, as long as you're hating the right Jews, know what I mean, wink wink nudge nudge, know what I mean.

don't forget

Criteria for determining what is promoted:-

31.08.2009 17:04

The types of articles which are promoted are described in the editorial guidelines. Here is the editorial guidelines page which is linked at the top of the homepage:-

 https://publish.indymedia.org.uk/en/static/editorial.html

Here is what it says:-

Articles may be promoted for the following reasons:

The promoted newswire is to show the best of the newswire. Moderators will promote any good posts. The guidelines below cover common practice, but are neither mandatory or comprehensive.

In general, posts meeting the following guidelines will be promoted:

* original, first hand reports on actions and other events
* good, original analysis

In general, the following types of posts will not be promoted:

* re-posts from other sources (blogs etc)
* announcements of events (unless with significant background/news content)

So, there you have it. Right, now I am off to hide this post as it is not news ;)
