Dig away!

The name ‘Blackheath’ is popularly but erroneously held to derive from its reputed use as a mass burial ground for victims of the Black Death in the 1340s. Less grisly, but more plausible suggestions for the origin of the name, which was recorded as early as the 11th century, are that it stems from Old English words meaning ‘dark soil’ (although the soil is not particularly dark except when wet), or that it is a corruption of ‘bleak heath’. The latter seems the most likely derivation.

Blackheath is not a plague burial ground, that is a myth.

Its name is actually a corruption of 'Bleak Heath'

Anyway, fuck the trivia, go and support the camp!

tripods

I've never understood those tripods protestors use. Surely the police can just pull one leg away and topple the person out of them? Or are they embedded into the ground or something?

Tripods

I think it's more that if they did pull one leg away and send the protester toppling to the ground, they'd probably seriously injure or kill them, which wouldn't be great publicity.

They've done it once.

The police (actually an off-duty one) have pulled down a tripod with someone on it at least once and she was seriously injured. The courage of people who hang up tripods in the face of rampaging cops should be recognised. It's bloody uncomfortable, too.

What i mean is how does it stop the police?
In my country the police would push the tripod over and hit the protestor when they are on ground again. Other policeman may shoot the protestor as they don't run when shooting starts. It seems a foolish idea to me to not have an escape from the police
