People & Planet offices broken in to for 2nd time in a week

adelayde | 19.08.2009 11:12 | Oxford

The offices of People & Planet, located in Union Street behind East Oxford Primary School were broken into again last Sunday.

The intruders entered through a window which they broke and then proceeded to wreak havoc in the officers, pulling open drawers and emptying the contents on the floors, damaging property and strewing campaign materials around the rooms in what appeared to be a general act of vandalism.

The intruders also stole one Dell Optiplex desktop computer and money from a fund-raising moneybox as well as destroyed two laptops that they encountered. Finally they happened upon a black in refill for a stamp pad which they then sprayed over the walls of one corner of the office and damaged a computer in the process.

This was following a previous intrusion the week before when two laptops were stolen. These laptops were the personal property of two of P&P's staff and were not covered by insurance.

P&P is a not-for-profit organisation and its income comes solely from funding and donations and it can ill afford to have to replace stolen equipment and broken windows.

Sorry to hear that

I wonder if it was fascist cops or cop loving fascists who done it? I suggest:
- You have a party / dinner / auction of promises to raise money to replace the uninsured items.
- Part of your office could become a sleeping area to deter future break-ins.

To be honest it just sounds like a random act carried out by some bored people who felt like causing damage to something, probably realised the office was easy to break into thought they'd have away with some of the stuff and break anything that they couldn't carry. Unfortunately it happens.

Fellow victim of previous break ins

you should have said the laptop were owned by P&P!

Free computer

I have an old PC, a Compaq I believe, which is sitting around doing nothing. I have had it for maybe two years and done nothing with it. I have a memory upgrade which I can fit, which I think might bring the total RAM to a gigabyte. I should think it would happily run Windows XP and it would be fine with Linux too.

Is this you here? If so, I will get in touch.

PS if you replace the laptops it is worth (at least) using Kensington locks or (better) locking them in a strong cupboard. I know this advice comes too late though!
