Bristol Co-Mutiny - 12th to 20th September

BristolCoMutinyWorkshops | 09.08.2009 20:32

Call out for Co-Mutiny Workshop Volunteers!

In Bristol and surrounds, a diverse group of people will converge between
the 12th and 20th September; drawn together by the common threads of our
indignation at how a combination of corporate greed, social injustice and
environmental degradation is leading us all towards climate choas and
financial collapse. Collectively we will share skills and knowledge, and
collaborate in autonomous actions to find a way out of the mess.

Themes for workshops and actions may include:
-Freedom of Movement (surveillance, migration)
-Anti-Militarism (Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Palestine, Filton)
-Climate Justice (just transition, financing of climate chaos, coal,
airports)
-Financial Collapse/Community Growth (role of banks, creating a new economy)
-Work (workers solidarity, co-operative working, workplace occupations)
-Food (animal rights, sustainable food production, permaculture)
-Autonomous Spaces (gentrification, housing, squatting)

We are particularly on the look out for anyone who's interested in doing workshops with a practical slant.

Co-Mutiny cannot happen without the collective efforts of all those who
help to organise it. If you want to get involved in running a workshop
during Co-Mutiny, either on your own, or with a collective, contact:

 bristolcomutinyworkshops@riseup.net

The deadline for workshop applications is 28th August.

Bristol anarchist bookfair kicks off the mutiny

13.08.2009 23:08

The 2009 Bristol anarchist bookfair on 12 September is the opening event of the Co-Mutiny convergence, an opportunity to find out about, and discuss, the ideas behind the action.

The bookfair takes place from 10.30am to 6pm at The Island, Bridewell St, Bristol BS1 2PY, right in the city centre and offers a real alternative to yet another Saturday at the shops. The bookfair is loosely themed around Resistance and Alternatives to Recession (cos this one isn't over by a long way...)

The bookfair is now fully booked with 35 stalls, and the programme of workshops/meetings is also now full. There'll be 13 of these, plus another 3 or 4 in the film & media room, along with films and an all-day vegan cafe. Workshop topics include debt, the economy, anti-militarism, patriachy, radical history, anarchist conference debate, Dave Douglass, a speaker from the national shop stewards network, radical parenting, corporations, social crime, disability direct action network, media, and of course utopia.

There will be a bookfair after party at The Croft nearby from 8pm to 2am, with bands, dj's, visuals & spoken word. It'll raise funds to pay for the bookfair, and for Haven Books to Prisoners. In the run up to the bookfair there are further fundraisers on 22 and 31 August, along with a film night on 7 september and other events. Full details are on the bookfair blog at  http://www.bristolanarchistbookfair.org and will be updated as and when. Come along and get ready.
