Shut Down Guantánamo! demo - 7 August, 6pm, American Embassy

London Guantánamo Campaign | 06.08.2009 21:37 | Guantánamo | Anti-racism | Terror War

Monthly demo outside the US Embassy in Mayfair calling for the closure of all illegal jails under the "war on terror" and freedom and justice for the prisoners, most of whom have faced no charges and no trial in nearly 8 years. Going strong since early 2007, if they close Guantánamo Bay, we'll go away...

Friday 7 August, 6-7pm
Outside the US Embassy, Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, W1A 1AE
Monthly "Shut Down Guantánamo Bay!" demonstration

With just six months to go now until his promised deadline to close Guantánamo Bay, there are still over 220 prisoners held there (including two British residents!) and a legal hitch means that no prisoners can be transferred to the US mainland for at least another 2 months. Joe Biden, however, is confident that by January, Guantánamo will be closed. As well as closure, the American administration, which still uses the rhetoric of the Bush government and remains completely unapologetic for the torture and arbitrary punishment and detention meted out to prisoners, must ensure freedom and justice for all these men. Join us as we make these demands to the US Embassy.
