Big Green Gathering cancelled

Weayaya | 30.07.2009 18:33 | Climate Chaos | Energy Crisis | Social Struggles

Another nail has been driven into the coffin of freedom in the UK and another step towards an increasingly powerful police state has been taken.

One of Britain's best-loved music and environmental festivals, the Big Green Gathering, has been cancelled following the granting of an injunction to the police to prevent it going ahead. Using concerns about public safety and claiming that the organisers had not obtained a road closure order in time, the police made it virtually impossible for the event to take place and so the organisers felt they had no choice but to cancel.

Big Chill replacement ticket offer

30.07.2009 19:49

The Big Chill: Herefordshire, August 6th - 9th (Thursday to Sunday).

If you want to join us at this event you will simply need to turn up with your wristband and the accompanying documentation... plus an extra £20 to cover the difference in price between a Big Chill ticket (£145) and a Big Green ticket (£125). (plus parking if you come by car).

It will then be made as easy as possible for you to enter the Big Chill with your Big Green ticket... though if you are up for coming along, you should CHECK BACK HERE for details before you set off.

Concession tickets will ALSO be honoured as part of this deal, although again, an additional £20 will have to be paid. (plus parking if you come by car).

We are not yet able to say what the policy will be on paid worker’s tickets. CREW tickets do NOT fall under the terms of this offer. NB If you are DISABLED and you now want to come to the Big Chill, please let us know in advance so we’ve got facilities for you. BUT DON’T TELL US YET!!! We still need a couple more days to draw breath after the shock of losing our event.

Look on their website to see what the Big Chill has on offer this year... and be aware too, that we’re going to bring along at least a few special Big Green Features. We’ll have a stall there, and some of the same speakers who were on our bill (including Jonathan Cainer) will be in their 'Words In Motion' tent. Also on the Big Chill bill are Max Romeo, Gong, Pharoah Sanders and Music from the Penguin Cafe, plus comedy from Noel Fielding, Tim Minchin, John Hegley, Josie Long and Rob Deering.

Please note; the Big Chill is not yet a Green event but they do have a long history of supporting honourable causes including Amnesty International... and they are now starting to use more solar and wind power. Solar Aid have a presence there this year.

Festival goer

An alternative camp for you...

30.07.2009 21:53

I hear there's a bloody giggle going on at Highgate Rabbit farm in Lincolnshire at the moment. Plenty of flashing lights and funny costumes and all the angry farmers a festival goer could want.

Maybe everyone who was going to go to the environmental fest should do their bit for the animal rights campers instead?

Camp runs until at least Saturday and probably well into next week now, So I heard?
