Positive media coverage of Highgate Rabbit Farm Protest Camp

SHAC | 27.07.2009 18:12 | SHAC | Animal Liberation

ANTI-VIVISECTION activists have set up camp close to the entrance to Highgate Rabbit Farm at Normanby by Spital, protesting against the farm's programme of breeding rabbits and ferrets for the vivisection industry, including Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS)
Around half a dozen protesters arrived at about 8.30am this morning and set up tents and banners about 100 yards away from the main entrance.

Nineteen year old leader Chris witheld his surname but reassured everyone the demonstration was '110 per cent peaceful'.

"This is the lawful side of the animal rights movement," he said. "We are here to peacefully protest and are trying to keep it non-confrontational.

"We're here just to be here, to act as a gentle reminder to the farmer that it's an unacceptable way to make a living and to let local people know we're here."

Chris, who is from the West Country, is a full time activist on animal and human rights and environmental issues and said that although this protest had been organised by him, he was working in conjunction with the Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) campaign.

Other activists have joined the camp during the day but Chris said he did not expect there would be more than a dozen or so as people came and went. He expected the camp to last until Friday.

One of those who came later was Ally from Spilsby, who said she had been involved in animal rights issues for many years.

"As this was local we decided to come," she said.

The demonstration is seen as a precursor to a large national demonstration organised by SHAC planned outside Highgate Farm on September 26, when around 500 demonstrators are expected to attend.

* Huntingdon Life Sciences is an animal-testing company founded in 1952 in England, but now with branches in America and Japan. It is the largest such commercial organisation in Europe and employs about 1,700 people, conducting tests on around 75,000 animals a year, testing pharmaceutical products, agricultural chemicals, industrial chemicals and foodstuffs on behalf of private clients worldwide.

another breeder for HLS in Lincs

These people have in the past supplied quail, mallard ducks, pheasants, pigeons, etc to vivisection laboratories. Research papers from the 1980's confirm that they have in the past supplied HLS (or HRC as was) with animals for research.

Get real, you post this based on records nearly 30 years out of date? I bet the industry is rubbing it's hands with glee since the new SHAC lot took over the running of the place...

Couldn't organise a pissup in a brewery!!

It's OK Titch

I'm sure you can convince yourself...

Geoffrey Douglas doesn't seem to be rubbing his hands with glee. Nor do Thermo Fisher who are thinking of getting an injunction. Nor are Glaxo who are continuing with their injunction proceedings which have thus far cost in excess of £3million. Nor for that matter are HLS who have been forced to attempt to become a private company - owned by the company who they have already had to sell their labs to. Classy.

And whilst that information is old it firstly wasn't posted by SHAC - it was posted by someone wishing to inform SHAC of a potential lead (ergo the "new SHAC lot" dig being rather silly dontcha think?) and secondly HLS are a contract testing lab, which means they release very few research papers. Lincolnshire Pheasantries have supplied other labs very recently and as such are a valid target for the anti-vivisection movement in general, and poopysnoopy1234 was clearly alerting the SHAC campaign (and others) to the fact that they have, and potentially still are supplying HLS.

Now whilst your agenda is clearly to try to stop people targeting Lincolnshire Pheasantries you little tantrum posts aren't likely to achieve that.

By the way, you spelt "until" wrong in your top banner on your blog. I guess at least it sets the tone for the rest of the content, but it's really not very professional is it?

"Nor for that matter are HLS who have been forced to attempt to become a private company - owned by the company who they have already had to sell their labs to. Classy."

Actually it's much worse than that. It isn't the same company. Although it is owned by the same man! Baker has set up 2 companies. 1 owns th land. The other will own the company. Therefore one company Baker owns will pay rent to a second company Baker owns . A classic Tax Fraud. Baker also has a clause where HLS will pay him personally $2million if HLS is bought out. This clause was altered earlier this year... Baker then sets up a company to buy out HLS!! Again classic fraud.

Also, the tax fraud that HLS is committing against the US treasury will soon catch up with them despite them delaying putting through the paperwork to try to extend the fraud. The investments on behalf of staff pensions is also looking quite dodgy. This is all well known in financial circles.

It's no suprise.

to me that the animal rights movement in the UK has imploded. The next generation down at SHAC are making the same old mistakes as the last lot. Many actions were taken on the strength of bad information, it's not right, it's very wrong!

Even now the new SHAC lot need to look at who's sat next to them. Would you trust someone who's parent works for say NETCU? No you wouldn't so why trust someone who's parent was a top ranking special branch officer..? Tut tut, you will never learn!

Information spewed out from SHAC and co has no credibility as far as I'm concerned, SHAC is corrupt to the core!

The direct action movement is behind bars and people putting out unsubstantiated info like this should be also.

Let's here it for the I'm an anti brigade. Closer than you lot think..........

More Lincolnshire Pheasantries info..

29.07.2009 12:04

I've not checked all the information here thoroughly so if anyone is thinking of acting on it please make sure to confirm it first. It would appear Lincolnshire Pheasantries is still active though they go to considerable lengths to conceal themselves. I have viewed what must be a fairly recent aerial photograph of the farm and breeding pens are clearly visible which suggests they are still rearing pheasants. If that is the case you can be sure they'll still be selling them to vivisection laboratories. The business was set up in 1955 and was run by William Lewerne Chaplin (Born 10.5.1935) and Mary Chaplin (Born 29.5.1942) but appears to have been taken over in 1994 by their son William James Chaplin (Born 1.5.1970). His parents may still be involved in some way but they now live a few miles away just south of Woodhall Spa.
