Pair jailed for web race crimes

Two men have been jailed after becoming the first in the UK to be convicted of inciting racial hatred via a foreign website.

Simon Sheppard, 51, of Selby in North Yorkshire, received four years and 10 months, and Stephen Whittle, 42, of Preston, two years and four months.

Incitement to racial hatred. They are publishers of, among other things, a bootlegged version of Nick Griffins "Who are the Mindbenders?"

The leader of the BNP, Nick Griffin, authored Who are the Mindbenders?, a pamphlet that asserts that Jews control and brainwash people through the mass media: "very few people in Britain are aware of the huge influence over the mass media exercised by a certain ethnic minority, namely the Jews". The booklet purports to provide a list of all Jews working in the media as proof of this thesis. The supposed Jewish manipulation of the BBC is 'proved' by a list of 19 Jews who work for the corporation, which employs thousands. In the booklet, Griffin
accuses Jews "of providing us with an endless diet of pro-multiracial, prohomosexual, anti-British trash".

The Mindbenders is based on Who Rules America?, a similar pamphlet written by William Pierce, one of the world's foremost neo-Nazis and a self-confessed ally of Griffin. Pierce is also the author of The Turner Diaries, a fictional account of a race war in America, which inspired Timothy McVeigh the Oklahoma City bomber.

When the former MP Alex Carlisle reported Griffin for inciting racial hatred and Holocaust denial, Griffin commented: "This bloody Jew, our local MP who organised the raid whose only claim to fame is that two of his parents died in the Holocaust."

In Spearhead, Griffin has written, "Some 'anti-Semitism' may be provoked by the actions of certain Jews themselves and thereby have a rational basis".

When Griffin determined to become more electable he pretended that these publications no longer exist. In 1999, Hull BNP organiser Simon Shepherd was convicted of distributing race
hate material. This was in reference to leaflets issued for the European elections, which had racist and anti-Semitic content. His publishing activities continued with badly assembled racist material available through eBay and direct from a website or personal contact. This continued to include "Who are the Mindbenders?" which Griffin pretends is not his work.

When Griffin goes through Belgium, he might need to explain the continued publication of racist material that he continues to hold copyright on. Unless he takes a public stand against Shepherd, there might be an argument in a Belgian Court that he promotes racism.

Shepherd is no great friend of Griffin - insofar a the BNP has "friendships" - quoting from his heretical press website we get questions like:

"Is Griffin a Psychopath?"

and the response that:

"I now know from personal experience that Nick Griffin is a liar and a charlatan. This is no great revelation, but the evidence is now so blatant that it demands comment. The following is from Griffin’s New Year’s Message on the BNP website"

Shepherd then goes on to outline the "failure" of the left to destroy the BNP:

"A small clique (relentlessly backed by the far-left) has been plotting behind the scenes to use lies, character assassination and deceit to hijack the BNP and drag it back into an ugly past of mythical ‘Jewish conspiracies’, juvenile cross-burnings and crude race hate. "

But, more importantly for Shepherd, the point is that there are conspiracies going on (real or imagined):

"Meanwhile, someone within the same clique has now provided (sold?) the addresses of an unknown number of BNP members to an openly neo-Nazi outfit to send them advertising material for clearly illegal and deeply disgusting extremist propaganda. To those decent BNP members who have in the last couple of days received unsolicited mailshots from one Simon Shepherd I can only apologise and urge them to consign the filth to the bin. Shepherd is the hardcore and unreconstructed extremist who set up and ran John Tyndall’s Spearhead website, and will no doubt have taken malicious delight at the thought of disturbing decent people’s New Year’s Eve with his political pornography. Greater proof of the bad faith of the Smith/Graham/Blake gang, and – apart from our former web editor’s hacking of the private email accounts of national and local BNP officials – a greater betrayal of the trust that was placed in them, it is hard to imagine. "

These conspiracies were, essentially, the distribution of racist material that he himself had produced for far right interests. Hoping to distance himself from their distribution Shepherd then begins to reveal just how little the BNP actually cares for the (data protection) law in pursuing their own in fights:


"Due to disaffection within the BNP I was given a list of addresses (how it came to me I will not say), who were among the people mailed around 40,000 free copies of the Don’t Be Sheeple newspaper. I did indeed set up the Spearhead website. Everything else however is pure fantasy, wrong both in substance and in fact. I will further point out the misspelling of my name and that the Don’t Be Sheeple was cleared by lawyers. These are not innocent errors: Griffin has a law degree and such misspelling is a Searchlight trick."

Shepherd is, also, an unrepentant racist. He does, however, know more of the skeletons in the BNP closet than is good for Griffin.

It`s the best news i heard in awhile.I am confused thou,to how Kevin Watmough gets away with peddling his vile rhetoric?.He seems to have been at it for many a year.Rumour has it he is a police informer amongst other things.

Hopefully his day of judgemnt will not be to far away.
